Aristrida purpurea, Purple Three Awn, is a durable bunch grass that can serve as a lawn alternative to non-native turf grasses. When mature, this grass has a robust fountain silhouette that's outlined by brown and purple seed heads. While A. purpurea makes a great lawn, the seed heads can be sharp so it is best not to install near heavy-foot traffic areas. Otherwise, this plant will easily self-seed and spread throughout the landscape. You can even cut it back if absolutely needed.
