I love this plant as a filler in between other coastal sage scrub plants! Even though the flowers are numerous, it is not considered a very showy plant, because each flower is very small. That doesn't mean it's not beautiful, on the contrary. The many MANY tiny flowers of different shades of pink, purple, yellow, and white create a sparkly effect. It's very much akin to a night sky or a twinkly Christmas light display. It's no wonder asters are named after the ancient greek word for star.
